Thanks to the Home Depot Foundation, and more than 300 volunteer vendors and partners, a transformation of nearly an acre of weed and the gopher-infested property has been completed at the Hawley Veterans Service Center located in El Cajon, CA, a program that provides transitional housing to homeless veterans with disabilities.
The landscape project included the addition of basketball and volleyball courts, an orchard, expansion of the patio area, the installation of low-maintenance, environmentally friendly synthetic turf, horseshoe pits, outdoor grills and a “victory” vegetable garden. The property can now hopefully offer a retreat-like experience to young former soldiers dealing with combat stress.
Volunteers of America is grateful for our partnership with The Home Depot Foundation, and we are honored to be able to partner together to serve those who served us. Thank you, Team Depot!
