WHO WE ARE
Volunteers of America South Central Louisiana inspire self-sufficiency, dignity, and hope by providing critical health and human services to thousands of vulnerable individuals and families across South Central Louisiana. Established in Baton Rouge in 1921, Volunteers of America South Central Louisiana now serves a 27-parish area. Our vision is to engage the energy and spirit of the people of Louisiana, to care for our neighbors who need help today, and to build healthier, more compassionate communities for tomorrow.
OUR SERVICES
Behavioral Health
We provide 24-hour residential support based on individual needs, independent housing with supportive services, medication management, group therapy, counseling, community support, and referral and assistance with the activities for daily living to individuals living with severe mental health issues.
Homelessness & Supported Housing
We provide year-round shelter and housing-focused case management, education training, job training, referral services, behavioral health treatment services, and more to men, women, and children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Community Corrections
Since 1976, our Residential Re-entry Center (RRC) program has been providing the kind of structured and community-based support returning citizens need to effectively transition back into society.
Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities
We support individuals living with an intellectual or developmental disability by providing safe, supportive housing and person-centered services including in-home support, crisis stabilization, and life skills training.
Veteran Services
We offer a variety of community-based services to help veterans and their families achieve housing stability, including case management, transportation to jobs, crisis intervention, mental health referrals, and income support.
Children and Family Services
Volunteers of America serves children, youth and families through all of its programs because each family that is stabilized and independent makes our communities stronger. Our programs provide a continuum of care and support for young people and their families through early intervention, crisis intervention, foster family care, and reunification services.
Child Education and Development
Since 1996, Volunteers of America’s Partnerships in Child Care programs have provided support for child care providers and parents of children from birth to age five. Partnerships in Child Care provides support for child care providers through training and on-site technical assistance and serves as a referral source for parents looking for local child care services.
HIV/AIDS Services
Volunteers of America South Central Louisiana is committed to ensuring access to medical care for persons who have HIV/AIDS, supporting people in care to encourage medical compliance and to slow their disease progression, and providing supportive services and affordable housing that help them maintain their quality of life. Services are currently available to individuals throughout the Greater Baton Rouge area.
Senior Living and Care
No matter what age you are, Volunteers of America South Central Louisiana’s senior services and programs are designed to promote health and independence. We provide an array of services to help our senior citizens age in place, find safe and affordable housing, or access high-quality personal and medical care. Like all of our services, our programs for seniors focus on the individual. We make every effort to recognize and respect personal goals and work cooperatively with each individual and their personal support system to reach those goals.

Presenting our 13th annual Celebration for Change fundraising production highlighting the many ways Volunteers of America has supported those in our community experiencing homelessness. While Ms. Chiquita is an example of a success story, many others are not so lucky. There is still much to be done to create true change and turn someone’s story from Hopeless to Hopeful.
